Meet the Committee Members for 2024

Our club is very lucky to have a great Committee where each member is very approachable and voluntarily donates their time to assist in the running of the club. 

Committee meetings are held every 2 months with an AGM held in about March of each year.

Debbie’s background includes founder and owner of Debbie Hart’s Swimming School for 35 years teaching children from 3 years to competitive swimmers, representing Great Britain from 1975-1978 at County, National and International swimming events around the world, Silver medalist in 50m butterfly and Bronze medalist in 100m butterfly at FINA World Masters in Italy as well as a WA state record holder for 50m butterfly.

She has many sporting awards including ASA Swimming Coaches Award, RLSS Lifesaving Award, Aquafit Award and AUSTSWIM Teaching Swimming and Water Safety Qualifications.

As Coach Coordinator she is the first contact for the coaches and to assist and mentor them as well as guide and plan for the club to provide our members with a structure of training, fun, fitness for pool and open water swimming including competitions.

Coach Doreen

Doreen Stubbie

Coach

Doreen has been one of our accredited Masters coaches since 2018. She has also been a qualified teacher of Swimming and Water Safety since 2009, a Royal Life Aquatic Trainer since 2011 and an Austswim Assessor since 2012. In 2014 she gained her qualification in Teacher of Aquatics – Access and Inclusion followed by Teacher of Competitive Strokes in 2019.

She is currently employed teaching children in the school and vacation swimming programs based at Aqua Jetty

Doreen joined Masters in 2015 as a mature adult swimmer so understands the challenges of swimmers trying to alter the habits of a lifetime of swimming. Notwithstanding that she is a swimming coach, Masters has given her the opportunity to adapt new techniques and skills to improve her swimming as well as understand and learn terminologies and procedures for pool meets and competitions.

Doreen is also a very keen open water swimmer enjoying many open water events, participating in the Busselton Jetty swims, Coogee Jetty to Jetty swims, various WOW and OWS competitions as well as our wonderful local beaches.

PK Sullivan

Program Leader

PK is just starting out on her coaching career and has completed the Masters Swimming Professional Development Course allowing her to become a Program Leader.

As a Program Leader PK is able to help guide you through the training session as set by one of the accredited coaches.

She is a newly qualified Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety and is currently undertaking a Cert 111 in Outdoor Leadership.

Besides being very passionate about nature, fitness and fun, PK teaches children to swim and loves helping people find the joy in being outdoors and staying active.

Dana Richards

Dana completed her Masters Coaching accreditation in May 2024, however has has been in and around the water her whole life.

She started swim teaching 20 years ago, and has taught infants, children, teenagers and adult learn to swim and has worked as a club coach over the last two decades, majority of which on the South Coast of NSW.

Dana has additionally worked as an Aquatic Program and Swim School Coordinator/Manager at the University of Wollongong. 

She works full time in the Royal Australian Navy as a Training Officer, as she has been a member both full and part time of the ADF in parallel with her part time/casual career in the Aquatic Industry, whilst raising her family.

In her spare time over the last 15 years she has also been a volunteer for Surf Lifesaving in NSW, where she was an age manager, club coach and the NSW Surf Lifesaving South Coast Branch Director of Surf Sports.

As a young teen swimmer herself she was a National Swimmer, making it to the Pan Pacific Swimming Championship level for 100m and 200m Butterfly.

Over the last 15 years she has predominantly focused on Masters Surf lifesaving events, and has won World, Australian and State titles for Ocean Swimming, Board paddling, Ski Paddling and Ironwoman events. A highlight was completing the Coolangatta Gold endurance event in 2014.

Dana moved to WA at the start of 2023, and joined both the Rockingham Masters Swim Club and Warnbro Sound Warriors.

Over the summer season she competed in the WA OWS and took out the Legends Female overall winner and in May 2024 competed in the Masters National Championships in Darwin in both pool and open water events and placing third in her age group in the 3.2km distance event.

Head Coach Cherie

Cherie Savin

Cherie has been one of our Masters WA club coaches since 2016. She has also been coaching in a variety of other roles since 2016. These include learning to swim classes from babies to adults and special needs in the private sector, Education Department and Royal Life Saving organisations.

Her qualifications include Teacher of Aquatic Education, Competitive Strokes, Access and Inclusion, Open Water Course, Cert 4 Personal Trainer and Level 1 Athletics Coach. Her biggest joy as a coach is helping people to enjoy swimming and keeping active as much as she does. This includes helping to assist people in achieving their sporting dreams, and which sharing in their success gives her great pleasure.

She competes regularly in OWS, WOW events and interclub pool competitions including the Busselton Jetty Swim and Rottnest Island Channel Crossing Swim which she completed as a Solo swimmer in 2021. She also competed at the Masters Nationals in Adelaide in 2019. 

Cherie is also an experienced triathlete and ultra-marathoner/trail runner, completing a Half Ironman event in under 6 hours in 2017, achieving 2nd place in a 3-day Ultra Marathon (170km) event in 2018, 1st place in the Perth Marathon Relay in 2017 and 1st place in the 6-hour Track Ultra event in 2021.

Coach Bridget

Bridget Young

Head Coach

Bridget has been coaching swimmers for many years from juniors through to adults. She has gained so much joy and achievement from swimming that she now enjoys passing her knowledge and experience gained over the years to helping other swimmers accomplish their dreams.

Bridget has achieved a lot during her swimming career including completing the English Channel crossing solo swim in 1985 as well as an additional three crossings in relay teams.

She has been inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, USA, competed in the 1991 World Championships in Perth achieving 11th place and travelled the world as a member of the Great Britain long distance swimming team which was ranked number one in the world at the time.  

She is still competing in outdoor and indoor events and for the last 4 years has come first in her age group in the Swimming WA OWS Series events.
